Picture of the eight dancers that will perform Odissea by Maria Rovira

An 'Odyssey' to overcome tragedy

Maria Rovira is premiering her choreography for eight dancers at the Mercat de les Flors with music by Eduard Iniesta.

The choreographer Maria Rovira, founder of Trànsit Dansa and winner of the National Dance Award 1998, is premiering Odissea at the Mercat de les Flors at the head of Crea Dance Company, a project born in 2017 that now delves into feelings such as absence and survival.

Rovira's new work is a journey that reflects on our society and the recent events that have shaken it, such as "modern wars" and their migratory consequences. The performance doesn't shy away from pain and tragedy, highlighting poetic and beautiful images in a visual creation filled with rhythm for eight dancers: Nilufer Ackanbas, Ariadna Jordán, Marcel Quesada, Idolina Masses, Alejandro Miñoso, Julio León, Osmani Torres and Laia Vancells.

The music is the work of composer and performer Eduard Iniesta, who recently celebrated 25 years on stage. He specialises in double-stringed instruments and is considered a reference in Mediterranean music, with a solid career ranging from folk, rock and blues to classical and world music.

Five performances have been scheduled from 6 to 9 October. Tickets to see Odissea are 22 euros and can be purchased in advance at this link.

In addition to the afternoon sessions, there will be a matinee performance at a reduced price (12 euros) on Friday, 7th at noon, in order to bring this artistic discipline to the widest possible audience. Afterwards, the artistic producer and cultural manager Beatriz Daniel will lead a post-function conversation open to all attendees.

In addition, on the 8th, there will be an introductory session to the show Una hora abans, given by the critic and cultural journalist Joaquim Noguero of Explica Dansa. Access is free with the ticket to the show. However, there is also the possibility of following the live and open broadcast of this activity through the Youtube channel of the Mercat de les Flors.
