Mal Pelo and the new generations, at Mercat de les Flors
The company formed by María Muñoz and Pep Ramis brings to the stage a choreography with young performers, including their own children.
Mal Pelo was born in 1989, so it is now thirty-six years since the company began its career. At this moment, its members are wondering what they have to offer to the generations that will follow them. From this question is born WE. Nosaltres i el temps, which you can see at Mercat de les Flors from 24 to 27 April.
It is the latest creation of a company that has won the 2002 National Dance Award from the Generalitat de Catalunya, the 2009 National Dance Award from the Ministry of Culture and the 2017 City of Barcelona Award, among many other awards, and which throughout its career has sought out new languages and created shows in which text, dramaturgy and movement were essential parts. They are the creators of L'Animal a l'Esquena, a creative centre in Celrà (in the Empordà region) which has not only been the home of their shows but also of those of many other creators.
They have often collaborated with other artists and have always been open to transmission experiences, but now they are looking to the younger generations and have created a stage proposal not designed for young people, but to be performed with young dancers. With them, they will ask themselves about a future that no longer belongs to them, but to these dancers, including Paula, Sam and Martí Ramis who, together with Arianna Bonacina, Luca Bologna, Paula Calveras, Enric Fàbregas, Ona Fusté, Milagros García, Jacob Gregersen, Alec Letcher and Zoltan Vakulya, perform the creation. On stage, in addition you will find the musical collaborations of Joel Bardolet and Jaume Guri (violí), Daniel Claret (violoncello), Masha Titova (viola), Quiteria Muñoz (soprano) and Javentu (Jacob Gregersen and Vitus Denifl).
They will ask themselves about the inheritance we leave to those who will come after us through movement, but also through texts created at different ages and showing different visions of life. Once again, the company alludes to concepts such as travel, emigration and loss of place in order to develop the basic principle of movement: walking.
If you want to see how the generations meet in Mal Pelo's newest choreography, come and see We. Nosaltres i el temps at Mercat de les Flors, but first check the website for information about the show.
