The long weekend of Primavera Sound
The festival takes over the Parc del Fòrum with a programme packed with big names ranging from Pulp and PJ Harvey to Lana del Rey, among many, many more.
This week, the week-end starts on Sunday. That's if you're planning to enjoy the concerts of Primavera Sound 2024, a festival full of well-known names: from Lisabö and Yo la Tengo to Vampire Weekend and El Mató a un Policia Motorizado, passing by Arab Strap. You can buy day tickets or season tickets for the whole festival (cheaper if you're from Barcelona), but you can also enjoy a free opening concert. All this, from 29th May to 2nd June, in the Parc del Fòrum.
The first date with Primavera Sound (remember that the festival also takes place in the city's night clubs under the name of Primavera a la Ciutat) will be on 29 May when, from 5 p.m. onwards, there will be a free concert with popular names, some of them very entertaining. It will be free, but you have to register on the AccessTickett app (you don't need to have a weekend ticket) and leave a deposit of €10 to be used on drinks or to be refunded a few days later.
In this inaugural concert you will find Maria Jaume, a Mallorcan singer-songwriter disguised in other styles who, after moving through pop and folk, is preparing more surprises. She will be joined on stage by the Australians Tropical Fuck Storm, demonstrating that rock is more than a style, it is a way of life, and also the North Americans Ratboys and their combination of post-country, indie and soulful folk. Surely you've seen La Mesías, so you're all ready... for a concert by the Stella Maris, a slapstick version of Christian rock with Amaia Romero at the forefront. Don't leave, the main course is still to come, Phoenix, who bring their independent pop made in Versailles to the Forum Park.
From here on, a programme of concerts with more names (and bigger names) than you can imagine. You won't run out of proposals because, on 30 May, the first day of ticketed concerts, you have a line-up headed by Pulp, the mythical Britpop band that will be accompanied by the North American indie rock band Vampire Weekend and the French electronic and rock duet Justice.
But on the same day, among a plethora of names, we also have Peggy Gou, Deftones and Beth Gibbons as well as Derby Motoreta's Burrito Kachimba, the mythical Arab Straps, Cómo Vivir en el Campo and Renaldo & Clara.
These are just some of the names of a festival that, on 31 May, brings to the Forum Park one of the greatest international pop stars, Lana del Rey (pictured), but also the independent indie rock of The National and the house and garage house duet Disclosure. It will also be the day of Yo La Tengo, Ferran Palau and many other artists.
On Saturday, June 1st, we'll be able to hear a great lady of folk, P.J. Harvey, and emerging artists such as the Japanese-American Mitski, queen of the new generations of North American indie rock. On the same day, you have on stage the indie-rock with glam elements of The Lemon Twigs, the Argentine indie rock of Él Mató a un Policía Motorizado and local proposals such as that of the Basques Lisabö.
If you're still looking forward to the party, on Sunday, 2 June, you can finish it off with a Brunch Electronik session specially designed for you to go home looking forward to coming back next year.
