Festival de Jazz brings great international names and the pearls of the local scene
The 56th edition of the event brings to the city an array of talents ranging from Pat Metheny and Michel Camilo to Sílvia Pérez Cruz and Miguel Poveda. From 10 October to 23 March.
Current jazz stars, local talents with long-standing careers, and a large number of artists who belong to today's flamenco scene are part of the programme of the fifty-sixth edition of the Barcelona Jazz Festival. It all begins on 10 October with a concert by the Liceu Jazz Group, made up of some of the most outstanding students of the Conservatori del Liceu.
From this point onwards, there will be a host of national and international names in jazz and related music, as well as great flamenco artists ranging from Israel Fernández (on 11 October), Miguel Poveda (note that he sings Lorca's Poema del cante jondo, with Jesús Guerrero on guitar, at the Palau de la Música on 25 October) and Tomatito, to Vicente Amigo, Yerai Cortés, Alba Carmona and María José Llergo.
Among the first concerts, figures from the local scene such as Judit Neddermann (11 October, Sala Apolo), Lucía Fumero and Rita Payés (15 October at La Paloma) and Sílvia Pérez Cruz, who sings with Juan Falú on 16 November at the Palau de la Música.
What's more, over the next few months some of the greatest musicians on the jazz scene await you, starting with Maria Schneider, who will be at Paral-lel 62 on 6 November; Pat Metheny, who plays on 7 November at the Palau; legendary figures such as Mulatu Astatke (Sala Apolo, 7 November); cult musicians such as Ludovico Einaudi (8 November at the Liceu); the Joe Lovano Trio (11 November, at the Conservatori del Liceu); Michel Camilo and Tomatito (22 November, at the Palau de la Música); Paquito D'Rivera playing on 27 November with Pepe Rivero at Paral-lel 62 and Kamasi Washington, who will close the festival's programme on 23 February at Razzmatazz.
