One of the paintings by Neus Martín Royo from the exhibition

Poblenou's memory

An exhibition that features works by painter Neus Martín Royo with historical and photographic documentation of the neighbourhood.

The MUHBA Oliva Artés will open on 10 September an exhibition that will show the transformation of the Poblenou neighbourhood, located in the district of Sant Martí. The exhibition combines paintings by the artist Neus Martín Royo with photographic and textual documentation from the Poblenou Historical Archive. In addition, informative activities and a project aimed at schools have been scheduled.

The Museu d'Història de Barcelona (MUHBA) defines the exhibition as a "compilation of collective memories". Visitors will find images of the Mar Bella beach, the old Gasometer, the old TMB depot and the Casino L'Aliança, among many others. The dialogue between art and documentation allows us to travel through the neighbourhood's history and get a glimpse into its evolution.

Born and raised in Poblenou, Neus Martín Royo has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona (UB). Her favourite subjects when painting have always been the transformation of her neighbourhood, the Barcelona of the shops and bars of the past, the old buildings from Havana and the lighthouses in Menorca. According to the artist, "these places become little heroes with souls, vestiges of the past that with their real and mysterious presence, close, not disturbing at all, win our empathy and invite us to enter the painting".

The exhibition will remain open to the public until 8 January next year. Check this link for more information.
