Time of flowers at Casa Vicens
The first home designed by Gaudí brings together works by 24 artists in dialogue with the orientalism of modernisme through floral forms.
After the fog, the first flowers. Orient and Orientalisms, from modernism to modernity is the title of the exhibition which, until 7 January next year, will be in dialogue with the intrinsic art of Casa Vicens, the first house designed by Antoni Gaudí. The exhibition, co-organised by Casa Vicens itself and Casa Asia, brings together, for the first time in Barcelona, works by 24 contemporary artists from all over the world who contribute their personal creations to the interpretation of floral representation.
Each of the artists elaborates their own creative discourse using different formats and supports, and as a whole the project relates the orientalism of modernism and the globalisation of art today. Thus, for example, we find proposals by names such as Antoni Muntadas (installation), Javier Garcerá (painting), Teresa Esteban (painting), Joan Fontcuberta (photography), Linarejos Moreno (photography), Manuel V. Alonso (drawing), Marisa González (video-installation), Mari Ito (pictorial installation), Yasumasa Morimura (photography) and Azuma Makoto (video). Of the 24 artists, 11 are from Spain, 9 from Asia, 2 from Latin America, 1 from the USA and 1 from France -the latter two, the photographers Ana Ance and Jean Marie del Moral, both of whom are Spanish nationals. Menene Gras Balaguer, curator of the exhibition, defines the show as "a pooling of the representation of floral forms related to all the contemporary productions that have been grouped together, arousing particular interest in the relevance of floral representation in contemporary art".
