Eddie Henderson, a trumpet legend, at Jamboree

At the age of 79, this New York musician is visiting us with Albert Sanz, Arnie Somoyi and Stephen Keogh.

At the age of 79, Eddie Henderson can still hold his own among the top trumpeters in the history of jazz, a true legend in African-American music. He was born in New York in 1940, and from a very young age he had a passion for music, partly thanks to his parents: his mother danced at the Cotton Club and his father sang with the Charioteers. By the age of 9, he was playing the trumpet, and at 16 he met the mythical Miles Davis, who encouraged him to make music his profession since he saw an unusual maturity and extraordinarily fine taste in that adolescent. Henderson is visiting us in early May at Jamboree, in what will surely be a memorable evening. In his career, he has played with such famous names as Herbie Hancock, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones, Johnny Griffin, Slide Hampton, McCoy Tyner, Benny Golson, Max Roach, Jackie McClean, Dexter Gordon, Roy Haynes and Joe Henderson. As a leader, Henderson has released 25 albums, the first one Realization in 1973 and the last one Be Cool in 2018.

Eddie Henderson’s performances will be on 7 May in two sessions: 8 pm and 10 pm. In this concert, he will be accompanied onstage by the Valencian pianist Albert Sanz, the double-bassist Arnie Somoyi and the drummer Stephen Keogh, a regular at Jamboree.

It costs €30 to attend the concert. Tickets can be purchased in both the box office and online on the Jamboree website.
