The Dream of a clown

Cirque du Soleil visits the Palau Sant Jordi with the show Corteo.

With a title that refers to the festive parades (corteo, in Italian means parade) and with more than half hundred musicians, acrobats, singers and actors from the most diverse backgrounds, Corteo arrives to Barcelona, one of the great shows with which Cirque du Soleil has transformed the way we understand the arts of the dance floor. From 27 March to 6 April, at Palau Sant Jordi.

The actors’passion, the skills of the acrobats and the talent of the musicians and singers come together in a great staging whose theme is the dream of a clown.

The main character is Mauro, a professional laugher who is also a dreamer. So much so that he is now imagining... his own funeral. In a festive atmosphere and surrounded by protective angels of immaculate white, he will review his existence and will go back over some of the characters he has met in his career. Is this clown really sleeping?

The character, both good and wise, strong and fragile at the same time, is at the centre of the story, a play between reality and fiction, combining majesty and humour. Corteo's staging is said to be one of the most successful of this Canadian company. You can see that it is inspired by the structure of the Eiffel Tower for its sets.

Geometric patterns that come from medieval European churches are part of a scenography full of symbolism. You will see the performers divided between ground and air space, with an intermediate point considered a kind of dreamlike space.

If you don't want to miss the Cirque du Soleil show Corteo, come to Palau Sant Jordi, but first check the website for all the information about the performances.
