The Murs Oberts network is born, consisting of a set of municipal spaces where urban art interventions can be carried out, without the need to request prior permission and provided that a code of operation and coexistence is respected. There are 14 walls that already form part of the programme – some of which are already in regular use by artists and urban art collectives – and which are made available to all citizens. They can be found in the districts of Ciutat Vella, Sants-Montjuïc, Gràcia, Horta-Guinardó, Nou Barris, Sant Andreu and Sant Martí. In the coming months, more walls from all the districts will be added to the catalogue, both new and others that are already in use, and both municipal and privately owned.

The Murs Oberts are identified with specific signage and can be found online in a dedicated area of the Barcelona Cultura website. They are square pieces measuring 30×30 cm, specifically treated to withstand inclement weather and a fixing system with maximum safety guarantees.

The activation and deployment of the Murs Oberts network is one of the actions envisaged in the Urban Art Programme in Barcelona, which, as a planning tool, will enable the promotion and organisation of the presence of urban art in the city, as another artistic manifestation and with the recognition it deserves. It is part of the Government measure Culture and public spaces: the right of access to, and participation in, culture in the street, which recognises the need to facilitate access to spaces for artistic expression in the public space. The Urban Art Programme in Barcelona will be complemented by the Murs Regulats project, spaces in which artistic interventions can be carried out but linked to a specific community revitalisation or artistic promotion project. This type of wall will not be open and available on a regular basis, but will be used for specific interventions by organisations and groups with a desire to become involved in the territory and linked to the immediate community.
