Secrets to discover in Barcelona's museums

15/02/2024 - 11:40 h

Ajuntament de Barcelona

Registration will be open on march 19th to visit the most hidden corners of sixteen of the city's museums.

Do you like secrets, seeing what only a few people have seen before you and finding out what lies behind closed doors? Well, they have made a celebration for you, a day, In Museu 2024, during which sixteen museum spaces in the city open the doors of the restoration workshops, the reserve rooms and the archives. 2 March is a day for discoveries, but before that, from 19 March onwards, you must register to take part in the activities. Come and join us, the best proposals are flying!

With the slogan Discover the soul of museums, this year’s In Museu offers the public 2,704 places in 140 sessions at different venues around the city. The museum spaces involved are Castell de Montjuïc, El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria, DHub, Disseny Hub Barcelona, Fundació Joan Miró, MACBA, MUHBA – Centre de Col-leccions, MUHBA – Plaça del Rei, Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona – Castell dels Tres Dragons, the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona – Jardí Botànic, the Museu de la Música, the Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món – Seu Parc Montjuïc, the Museu Frederic Marès, the Museu Marítim de Barcelona, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, the Museu Picasso de Barcelona and the Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes.

You will see that, in each of the centres you visit, they organise different activities at different times. Thus, at the Museu Marítim de Barcelona, for example, you can see the traditional workshop, the conservation-restoration workshop, the collection reserves, the historical archive and the general archive, but at MACBA they will show you the collection reserves workshops, the conservation and restoration workshops and the archive and library of the Centre for Studies and Documentation.

Did you come to the 2023 edition? Well, you should know that this year, as a novelty, there will be visits to the Botanical Garden of the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona (do you know what a germplasm bank is? Here they show you one) and also to the Picasso Museum.

The MUHBA – Plaça del Rei is not like last year’s proposal, which shows the renovated exhibition room of the Romanesque altars and, in the ones in Plaça del Rei and in the Collections Centre, they will talk about climate change and the influence it has on the conservation of objects.

There will be no charge for these visits, but you will be asked to register from 19 February in the morning. You can book for a maximum of two people per activity and a maximum of two activities per application.

If you want them to explain a few secrets to you, come to In-Museu 2024, but first check the list of proposals and register to make sure you have a place.
