25 proposals to vindicate the 25N at the Barcelona Civic Centres Network
An invitation to reflect on gender violence and to actively contribute to the fight for equality through cultural, educational and family activities.
25 November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, is an awareness-raising date on which the Barcelona Civic Centre Network organises a rich and varied programme. Until 3 December, you can take part in a wide range of activities to reflect on, learn about and raise awareness of different forms of gender-based and gender violence. Workshops, lectures, exhibitions, shows and proposals for the whole family are part of this agenda.
Among the highlighted proposals you will find the workshop ‘Food and menstrual cycle’ (CC Vil-la Florida), where you will cook beneficial recipes for each phase of the menstrual cycle, while sharing experiences and knowledge in a community environment. Also worth mentioning is the workshop ‘Story femme: gaze and gender in audiovisual culture’ (CC Drassanes), which investigates how the heteronormative gaze has marked audiovisual culture and how we can build inclusive narratives.
For those interested in delving into issues of gender and sexuality from a transfeminist and intersectional perspective, the workshop ‘Autoeditem(nos)’ (CC Can Felipa) is a good option. Through collage and writing, participants will be able to create personal fanzines that question stereotypes and promote new ways of making body and desire visible.
The workshops will also be a key space for debate and reflect. At the talk ‘What is sexual violence?’ (CC Cotxeres Borrell), an introduction will be given to this phenomenon, which is very present in our society, breaking down stereotypes and offering ways to identify it. Along the same lines, the talk ‘There where it hurts the most. Let’s talk about parental violence” (CC Urgell) explores the consequences of this type of violence through testimonies that help to understand how to avoid it.
As for the exhibitions, the ‘Mostra de cartells commemoratius’ (CC Vil-la Florida) offers a graphic reflection on the importance of eradicating gender violence, with a selection of posters created by students from the Escola Superior de Disseny i Arts Plàstiques de Catalunya. Another outstanding proposal is ‘Identity traits. Portrait of women’ (CC Ateneu Fort Pienc), which gives women a look and image through a series of photographs that reflect the desires and experiences of these women.
For families, the community mural (CC Sant Andreu and Vil-la Florida) offers the opportunity to create together a work of art that claims equality and the elimination of gender violence. In addition, the youngest children will be able to enjoy the show ‘La rateta voladora’ (Sant Andreu CC), a feminist story that addresses issues such as bullying and the autonomy of girls, all through magic and humour.
With activities like these, the Barcelona Civic Centre Network invites us to take an active part in the fight against gender violence, offering spaces for awareness-raising, creation and reflection that allow us to delve into this important issue from different angles and perspectives.
All these proposals, along with many others, are a way to keep opening our eyes, learning and building a fairer and violence-free society. All the information about the activities can be found on the Barcelona City Council website.
